Stop Right There! Take Control of Your Needle Stopping Position

Jan 10, 2025

The Needle Stop icon in the status bar displays the needle position when the machine stops sewing.

When the needle image in the icon is up, the needle will stop up out of the fabric when the machine stops sewing. Tapping the Needle Stop icon changes the needle image down. This indicates the needle will stop down in the fabric when the machine stops sewing.

Note: On the B 990, when the needle is in the down position, the needle image in the icon is yellow. This makes it easy to see the needle position at-a-glance.

Adjusting your needle stop position based on your sewing needs saves time and streamlines your workflow.

  • Lower the Needle: Perfect for sewing multiple layers or slippery fabrics, and for pivoting when turning corners or sewing curves like in appliqué.
  • Raise the Needle: Ideal for threading and for easily removing fabric from under the presser foot.

Once set, the needle position remains until manually changed, even if the machine is turned off.

Other Convenient Methods:

  • Use the external Needle Up/Down Button to change the position.
  • Program the Foot Control Back-kick Function in Sewing Settings to toggle the needle position.

With these options, there's no need to manually turn the handwheel for needle adjustments. The Needle Stop Function is available on the 4, 5, 7, and 9 Series BERNINA machines, offering greater convenience and efficiency for your projects.
